Permanently under voltage, the capacitor assures the motor a supply during an auxilary phase. The mentioned voltage on the body of the capacitor has nothing to do with the sector voltage. The replacement by a higher voltage capacitor is possible, but not the opposite. If the replacement capacitor displays a capacity in micro farad (µF) more or less than 20%, the motor can start but gives a torque and a speed not sufficient, prejudicial to its longetivity. As they are constantly energised, they supply the motor with power from an auxiliary phase. The voltage marked on the body of the capacitors is not related to the mains voltage. It is possible to replace it with a capacitor of a higher voltage, but not the other way round. If the replacement capacitor has a capacitance in microfarads (µF) that is more or less than 20 per cent of the specified value, the motor may start but will deliver insufficient torque and speed, which may affect its service life.
