Replacement by a condensator with a higher voltage is possible, not the contrary. If the condensator displays a capacity in micro farad (µF) with more or less 20%, the motor can start but provides insufficient torque and speed, which can affect the lifetime. As they are constantly energised, they supply the motor with power from an auxiliary phase. The voltage marked on the body of the capacitors is not related to the mains voltage. It is possible to replace it with a capacitor of a higher voltage, but not the other way round. If the replacement capacitor has a capacitance in microfarads (µF) that is more or less than 20 per cent of the specified value, the motor may start but will deliver insufficient torque and speed, which may affect its service life.
