Sludge in heating systems deteriorates the heating installation and the boiler parts installed. To counter this, chemical descaling is necessary using a sludge removal pump and a descaler. To ensure a long-lasting installation, the sludge pot is a very effective solution. It attracts magnetic particles from the heating water around its magnet. The more powerful the magnet, the larger the amount of particles that will cling to it.
Installing a magnetic filter does not prevent occasional sludge removal, but it is a good means of preserving the boiler spare parts and avoiding the need to buy new heating replacement parts.
The Eliminator filter from SENTINEL is composed of 4 magnets, while the Safecleaner 2 and the MG1 only have one. This does not prevent them from being top-notch thanks to this magnet with a power of 11,000 Gauss.
Regarding the magnet itself, the Eliminator sludge filter from Sentinel does not integrate a bidirectional magnet, unlike the RBM Safecleaner 2 and the RBM MG1. It operates on a principle of a magnetized rod. The Safecleaner 2 also includes a purging feature, which is not the case for the Eliminator and the MG1.
The MG1 sludge remover is very compact (10x15 cm), although it does not install at 360° unlike the Safecleaner and the Sentinel Eliminator. The Safecleaner 2 sludge pot, on the other hand, is bulkier and can hold up to 500ml of liquid and heating sludge.
In addition, they incorporate a filtration cartridge for greater efficiency. The Eliminator magnetic pot does not include this additional filter.
Other sludge removers are available on the market that are just as professional. This includes the TF1 from Fernox or the Dirtmag from Caleffi. However, they have a less powerful magnet (between about 5200 and 9000 Gauss). The MG1 remains the most compact on the market (10 x 15 cm), although other magnetic filters are also compact, such as the Fernox TF1 compact (19x16 cm) or the ADEY Micro2 (13 x 16 cm).
