What is the purpose of descaling?

Descaling the domestic hot water pipes is crucial to protect the boiler components in contact (plate heat exchanger, 7-bar valve, etc.) which tend to wear out when scaled.
To achieve this, descaling will help remove scale residues and ensure softer water, just like when you purchased your boiler.

The Tools

To descale a system, you need:

• 1 pair of gloves and protective goggles
• 1 protective mask
• Some descaler
• Some passivating neutralizer
• 1 descaling pump

Yes, be sure to follow the dosage instructions on the container or in the manual. For example, a 1-to-1 ratio means you need 1 liter of descaler for 1 liter of water.

It all depends on the condition of your system and the product you are using. You see, in your pipes, the fluid flow increases gradually. Additionally, the descaler will change color if it is no longer active. In that case, you need to add more descaler.
At the end of the descaling process, it is important to run a passivating neutralizer through the system. Your system should have a neutral pH to avoid issues.
