How to determine which condensate removal pump you need

| Climatisation, Guides

A condensate removal pump is used to remove the water collected on the air conditioner coil. It has two main components:

  • the pump itself, which draws and discharges the water
  • the system managing the water level (start / stop / alarm)

The pump

Pumps used today are electromagnetic systems and offer excellent performance in terms of flow rate and pressure. We can now reach a discharge height of up to 15 m without difficulty.

They are also increasingly quiet, with a sound level between 28 and 40 dBA at 1 m from the pump.

Level management

There are two types of level management: electronic management and float management.

Until now, most systems used were electronic. Although the principle was interesting, in practice the situation was quite different: condensate water becomes polluted with greasy deposits on the surface, algae formation, scale or sludge deposits. This can prevent proper electrical contact and quickly lead to overflow and damage.

By contrast, float-type solutions are completely independent of water quality. The float creates a magnetic field and, when it rises, it activates Reed switches.

Start, stop and alarm functions are managed according to this principle, which guarantees extremely reliable operation.

Technical specifications

Specification SI 2750 EE 1750 EE 1650
Application Wall-mounted and ceiling mini-splits up to 10 kW Wall-mounted and ceiling air conditioners up to 30 kW Air conditioners with or without drain pan up to 30 kW
Sensor type 3-level float 3-level float 3-level float
Start level (mm) 14 13 20
Stop level (mm) 6 7 14
Alarm level (mm) 20 19 25
Maximum flow rate (l/h) 10 15 40
Maximum discharge head (m) 8 15 15
Maximum suction head (m) 2 3 3

The level values are average values. Take into account a tolerance of ± 2 mm for each level and always ensure that the drain pan is high enough.

This makes it possible for the pan to contain, beyond the alarm level, a volume corresponding to the coil defrosting process, or the water that may continue to flow in case of a power failure.
