How to install a room thermostat ?

Why install or replace a room thermostat ?

• To save on heating costs

What you’ll need :

• A set of screwdrivers
• A voltage tester
• A spirit level

Steps to follow :

• Before you begin, switch off the power to your boiler
• Remove the old thermostat
• Remove the battery protection tab
• Turn the release lever a quarter turn anti-clockwise using a suitable flat-bladed screwdriver, and separate the thermostat from its base.
• Open the terminal cover, lifting it up until it passes the locking notch.
• Secure the base using suitable screws and plugs, or directly onto the flush-mounted box if you have one.
• Remember to check the level before tightening.

Tip: If the thermostat does not fully cover the old fitting, there is a solution using the cover plate 656194. It incorporates the thermostat and fits all existing models.

• Open the terminal cover, lift it up until it passes the locking notch.
• Connect the wires to terminals 2 and 3.
• Close the terminal cover and screw it back on tightly, so as not to interfere with the refitting of the front panel.
• Snap the front panel into place from the top and press it down, then close the latch by turning it a quarter turn clockwise.
• Programme your thermostat, then switch your boiler back on, set it to heating mode and check that the thermostat is working correctly.
