Several appliances come into play in a true home: (furniture, decorations...). However, temperature and living conditions are even more important. It is essential to take the surrounding climate into account as well. To maintain a pleasant environment for occupants, several methods have been developed, among which is condensing heating. The use of this method requires a boiler specifically designed for the purpose. Thanks to its proven efficiency, condensing heating is one of the go-to heating methods. What can be said about this heating technique?
The Principle of Condensing Heating
Known for its efficiency and effectiveness, condensing heating is one of the methods used by most French households. It is based on some of the best processes that allow the user to save energy while complying with the RT 2012 regulations. To achieve this, you, the user, must have a boiler that is robust and well-maintained to ensure longevity. Thus, the principle of using condensing heating involves recovering energy from the water vapor contained in the hot flue gases.
Indeed, during combustion, very hot flue gases are produced. Initially, these gases pass through a heat exchanger that is traversed by the heating water before being expelled through the chimney. The water vapor is condensed, recovering its latent heat. Upon exiting through the chimney, the flue gases are at 70°C, and the water resulting from the condensation is directed into the drainage system.
Types of Condensing Boilers
By opting for condensing heating, you limit fuel use to reach the ideal temperature and aim to achieve the 100% efficiency it offers. Condensing heating allows for two types of boilers.
The Gas Condensing Boiler
Available at a very affordable purchase cost, this boiler allows you to benefit from a 30% tax credit and save 25% on your heating bill. This type of condensing heating is therefore highly recommended in terms of performance, cost savings, and efficiency (110%). Regarding installation, you will only need to consider two exhaust flues: one sealed for the flue gases and another for the condensate. It is installed just like a conventional gas boiler, and quite easily.
The Oil Condensing Boiler
Compatible with all heating systems that can be installed in a home, the oil condensing boiler uses oil for heat production. Part of this heat is recovered to assist in the operation of the system. Thus, oil is not the only fuel used for the operation of the system.
Condensing Heating: Advantages and Disadvantages
When using condensing heating, certain advantages and disadvantages can be noted based on three aspects: installation, usage, and maintenance.
Advantages
Condensing heating has several advantages that elevate it among the best types of heating worth highlighting:
- The installation cost of the system is affordable;
- Installation is very quick and straightforward;
- The possibility of adding control devices;
- Eligibility for the energy transition tax credit and energy bonus;
- The estimated minimum lifespan is 20 years.
Disadvantages
Like many other systems, condensing heating has some drawbacks depending on the type of gas used (natural gas or propane gas):
- When using propane gas, a considerable budget must be allocated for the purchase and a storage tank. Indeed, refueling needs to be done annually, just like maintenance, which is mandatory.
- When using natural gas, a connection to the city gas supply must be arranged.
Favored by the French, this old technique, condensing heating, has several advantages that allow it to be the most economical. It also supports the use of several other technologies.
