Ambient Thermostat

| Réponses d'experts

The ambient thermostat is an electrical or electronic device connected to a control system that allows you to manage the room temperature and maintain it at a fixed value. It is the ideal equipment for regulating the temperature within your home. Its refined heating system will not only enhance your comfort, but also help you save energy. For those who struggle to maintain their home at the desired temperature, the solution may lie in installing an ambient thermostat.

How It Works

Suitable for all types of boilers, this device will allow you to easily manage the temperature of your home. The boiler features functionality that allows you to select the most comfortable temperature. Depending on your needs, you can set the thermostat to reach the desired temperature. The heating stops when the temperature threshold is reached and resumes once the home's temperature falls below the set point.

Thermostat Installation Methods

The installation is relatively easy, but the installation location should be strategic. It is best to install it away from thermal disturbances or drafts and in a room where you spend considerable time. It should ideally be placed between 1.20m and 1.50m from the floor. The ideal temperature range is between 19 and 21 degrees during the day and 15 to 18 degrees in the evening. Keeping a constant temperature of 20 degrees is even better; this encourages limiting temperature fluctuations and consequently reduces energy consumption.

In a smart home environment, the thermostat can be connected to other thermostats and control devices. Wireless technology is also available for ambient thermostats. It is then referred to as a radio frequency thermostat.

Different Types of Thermostats

Several types of thermostats exist, all compatible with electric and hydraulic heating systems. There are three main categories: the non-programmable electromechanical thermostat, the programmable electronic thermostat, and the connected ambient thermostat.

  • The non-programmable electromechanical thermostat
    • Wired: featuring a graduated knob to adjust the temperature, it generates less energy savings due to the lack of programming capability.
    • Wireless: communicates with the receiver placed in the boiler. Its installation will therefore not cost much.
  • The programmable electromechanical thermostat
    • Wired: it has a digital display that provides precise details and enables energy savings by offering two or sometimes more distinct operating modes.
    • Wireless: allows you to reduce your energy expenses and saves you installation costs.
  • The connected ambient thermostat: serves as an interface between your boiler and your Wi-Fi, and you can control it from your smartphone or tablet.

Using an ambient thermostat could save up to a quarter of your home's overall energy consumption. Moreover, a programmable thermostat that can anticipate weather conditions could maximize energy savings.

It is worth noting that energy savings from ambient thermostats can amount to up to 637 euros per year.
